Riverview Recreation Complex
Riverview, New Brunswick
The Riverview Recreation Complex will be a new focus of civic life, offering social opportunities and healthy living for the residents of Riverview, New Brunswick. Situated at the north end of Mill Creek Nature Park, the site occupies a spectacular position within a beloved landscape of mixed deciduous and coniferous forest, winding waterways, and an extensive trail network. As the new gateway to the park, the project was conceived to be both a community gathering place and a threshold to the natural world, where architecture and landscape are intertwined.
Central to MJMA’s landscape architecture approach is a respect for the ecological integrity of the site and a commitment to Low Impact Development (LID), a design philosophy that emulates natural hydrological processes. Through its network of bioswales, constructed wetlands, permeable paving, and vegetated infiltration zones, the project allows the site to perform like a sponge, absorbing, filtering, and releasing water back into the ground. These features are moreover not hidden infrastructure but experiential landscapes—inviting users to observe and engage with the changing presence of water, deepening their awareness of the local ecosystem.
