Chinguacousy Park is a popular local and regional destination, situated in a suburban residential area of the rapidly growing city of Brampton, Ontario. MJMA’s renewal project transformed the 40-acre site into a more coherent series of spaces and added amenities that support year-round recreational activity. The project, which was completed within a limited budget and an aggressive schedule, included three new pavilions, one a renovation and expansion of an existing building.

Designed with a consistent vocabulary of forms and an elevated but durable palette of materials, the pavilions provide new programs and places for informal or formal socializing. With a focus on sustainability, each incorporates abundant daylighting, the use of interior and exterior recyclable materials, and reflective roofing systems, while careful stormwater management and retention protects the local watershed.

The pavilions and other park activities are linked by a new system of wayfinding signage, lighting, pedestrian pathway surfaces, and other landscape interventions that prioritize accessibility and safety, allowing community members of all ages and abilities to enjoy the park.

Perched on the edge of a small reservoir, the Park Amenity and Boat Pavilion, which includes a café and paddleboat rental, adds recreational amenities to a previously underserved area of the park. It also supports a nearby playground and picnic area.

The Clubhouse-Chalet serves the adjacent ski hill as well as a complex of outdoor volleyball courts, a skate park, and a BMX park.

The renovated and expanded Tennis and Curling Club has a new banquet space, a viewing gallery for the refurbished curling arena, and a member’s area for the Club. Each pavilion features a large indoor space with an adjacent covered patio for small or big gatherings.
