Tim Belanger
Partner
For over 20 years, Tim has focused his career on advancing equitable design and public placemaking. Over this period, his focus shifted from print design and branding to experiential design within the built environment. He joined MJMA in 2012 and became a partner in 2018, with roles that include defining our design ethos, leading project pursuits, and heading experiential design. Tim has led the design of graphics and wayfinding programs for many of our most lauded community and campus projects across Canada and in the U.S. and New Zealand. With each, he focuses on giving users a sense of ease and a heightened experience of their environment. Tim sees interdisciplinary collaboration — exchange between architecture, landscape, interiors, experiential design, and community engagement — as key to the future of design, a conviction he also brings to his role as co-chair of the Toronto Chapter of the Society of Experiential Graphic Designers.
Tim has long been an advocate for public spaces that are inclusive and accessible to all abilities and identities. Recent work includes the multi-faceted public outreach for MJMA’s Western North York Community Centre. He has also collaborated since its inception with Disability Solutions, a Toronto practice that helps organizations determine the business and social value of accessible design.
Tim was an avid skateboarder in his youth and he sees his passion for design and architecture as being rooted in various aspects of its culture—graphic art, finding joy in athletics, an awareness of the built environment, and a strong sense of community.
