Matt Peddie
Associate | OAA
Matt joined MJMA with experience in architecture, digital design, fabrication, research, and teaching, attained in North America and Germany. As a team leader and architect, he is valued by clients and colleagues alike for his attention to detail, creativity and foresight in design, and collaborative spirit. Besides stewarding teams across all stages of design and construction, Matt has also led Building Information Modelling for both interiors and architectural projects at MJMA.
With many of his projects consisting of complex renovation and additions, Matt maintains an ability to fully integrate existing and new structures while creating multi-use facilities that expand the typologies of campus architecture. They also provide unique combinations of programming and social spaces that interact in inventive ways — always with the focus on enhancing the student experience. A highlight of Matt’s portfolio is the Guelph South End Community Centre, a facility housing an aquatic centre, gymnasium, and other community spaces. Working through a range of sustainable options, he and his team arrived at a building design that was the first in Canada with its type of program mix designed to meet the Canadian Building Council Net-Zero Carbon standard, while also surpassing the project’s initial LEED Silver target and contributing to Guelph’s zero-carbon objectives. As both an architect and avid multi-sport athlete, Matt is proud to advance the health and cultural growth of the communities with whom we work.
Matt has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia as well as a Bachelor of Architectural Science and a Master of Architecture from the University of Waterloo, where, upon graduation, he was awarded the Royal Canadian Institute of Architects Student Medal. Before joining MJMA in 2017, he was involved in architectural research and teaching at the University of Waterloo and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He also worked for over 15 years in studios in Germany and Canada on recreational, academic, and residential projects.
