Zancor Centre
King City, Ontario
The Township Wide Recreation Complex is the first multiuse recreational facility to achieve the Canada Green Building Council’s Zero Carbon Building Design certification. The project includes a new park and serves both the Seneca College campus and the Township of King’s diverse and growing population, with a wide range of indoor and outdoor sport, recreation, and social programming.
The complex’s design takes advantage of its magnificent natural setting while prioritizing spaces that accommodate multiple uses and bring user comfort. Exterior amenities include a generous lawn for community gatherings and a sunlit courtyard with direct access to the facility’s aquatic hall and large multi-purpose room. The design also anticipates later expansion of the park. The building’s ambitious sustainability goals were achieved through energy-saving strategies that encompass the use of a geothermal field, a high-performance building envelope, ample daylighting in all primary spaces, and natural ventilation in the fieldhouse.
