Clarkson Community Centre Pool Addition
Mississauga, Ontario
Located in an established neighbourhood of single-family houses, this aquatic center addition to the existing Clarkson Community Center presented an opportunity to revitalize a focal point of civic life in the city of Mississauga, Ontario. The project was also delivered on a fast-track schedule to meet a Federal Infrastructure Stimulus funding deadline.
Although not facing the main street, the facility’s front entrance is clearly defined by a large canopy and leads directly into a generous new lobby, creating continuous indoor-outdoor community gathering space. This lobby forms an indoor ‘street’ and social heart, offering access and views into the aquatic centre and existing public library and gymnasium. Within the limited site area, abundant seating and landscaping were added surrounding the pool addition, providing places for rest and spontaneous social interaction.
