Hyaeinn Lee
Senior Associate | CSLA OALA APALA
MJMA’s head of Landscape Architecture, Hyaeinn brings over twelve years of experience in South Korea, Vancouver, and Toronto. She uses this to meet the wide range of requirements and challenges presented by our projects — from park spaces and green roofs to streetscapes and site-specific furniture. With every design she focuses on responding to regional contexts and site-specific conditions, to achieve placemaking that enhances the existing environment and gives people a greater understanding of their surroundings.
Hyaeinn has taken a leading role on numerous projects, including the Harbourfront Centre Community Square, an outdoor public space that supports year-round cultural, educational, and recreational programming. Designed to improve the accessibility, sustainability, and enjoyment of this much-loved civic site while also balancing summer and winter use, the project’s many features include an inviting and flexible-use plaza as well as new shade and seating elements. Another highlight from Hyaeinn’s portfolio is the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre. By integrating the disciplines within our studio — community engagement, architecture, interiors, experiential design, and landscape — the facility’s design was able to respond to the community’s desire for a complex that both serves all residents and is imbued with a ‘made-in-Muskoka’ feel. The project also exemplifies Hyaeinn’s typical approach to using native plantings and local materials in creating solutions that are contextually meaningful and advance the health of the environment.
Hyaeinn earned her Bachelor of Landscape Architecture at Gachon University and a Master of Landscape Architecture at Seoul National University. Before joining MJMA in 2019, she developed expertise with an array of project types, including residential, mixed-use development, and master planning. Hyaeinn founded her own studio for book publishing in Seoul and is also a certified translator.
