Woolwich Township is a thriving, rural southwestern Ontario ‘community of communities’. This facility consolidates the Township’s recreational amenities into one lively social hub, with community-driven programming. Efficient planning and connections between spaces are fundamental to the design. A circulation route that doubles as an indoor running track, with views to the outside, encircles the larger arena’s concourse-level.
Informed by budgetary constraints, the subdued interior palette is enlivened by colour strategically placed at program areas, including vivid blue and orange in the aquatics hall and arena.
Visual and graphic connections — such as the coloured ribbon that wraps the facility — tie programmatic elements together and provide spatial cues for circulation flow throughout the building.
