University of Auckland Waipapa Taumata Rau, Interior Signage Guidelines
Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand
As part of the development of the Hiwa Recreation Centre, MJMA completed an audit of the existing University of Auckland’s Interior Signage Guideline. Following this review, we created a new Guideline that provides a framework for clear and consistent navigation across each university building.
The new Guideline:
Provides updates that meet accessibility requirements, including both local and international best practices;
Better connects the signage to the University's brand;
Outlines cost-effective approaches that include detailed manufacturing specifications and consider durability, longevity, and a refreshed modern visual language; and
Enhances flexibility to respond to unique facility-specific conditions.
To better align with the campus identity, the new signage program derives from the distinctive form of the University's logo.
Also designed for flexibility, the signage system allows adjustments in 1-unit increments, with the sign unit determined by the desired corner accent unit size. This ensures the size can be tailored to meet functional requirements or respond to unique site conditions.
