The Emerald Hills Leisure Centre visually expresses the advancement of health and wellness for the growing Edmontonian community of Strathcona County. The aquatics centre delivers leisure, therapeutic, and learn-to swim programming to residents of all abilities
Changes of natural light throughout the day are captured by the interior’s white, angled planes that also reflect and diffuse this light to reduce glare. The hexagonal tile patterning references the refractive quality of light hitting water and forms a unifying theme but is also varied in scale and colour to several effects — to define program areas, facilitate easy wayfinding, and meet ideal contrast requirements for accessibility.
