Cambridge Recreation Complex & Library

Cambridge, Ontario

A vibrant and multi-generational community hub, the 112,00sf Cambridge Recreation Complex serves an established and still-growing neighbourhood at the south end of the city. The facility strengthens community identity—with indoor and park spaces that encourage social interaction, a focus on creating connections between building and landscape, and a distinctive exterior and interior design that draws inspiration from the site’s location within the Paris Galt Moraine.

At the main entrance, a landscaped civic courtyard is embraced by the transparent volumes of the library, lobby, and gymnasium. Inside, the generous atrium lobby binds together the main program areas, including the double gymnasium, aquatics centre, library, and multi-use community rooms. A level-2 track is continuous with a fitness area and opens up with views overlooking the gym and the surrounding park and city. The park’s recreational and sports offerings include a multi-use trail that allows the city to host triathlons.
