John Peterson
Senior Associate, Director of Sustainable Design & Building Innovation

"I am passionate about creating practical works of architecture that tread lightly on the environment, while simultaneously becoming a source of beauty and comfort to the community it serves."

John has been at MJMA since 2018, following more than 20 years of experience designing precedent-setting projects at Toronto’s Teeple Architects, Baird Sampson Neuert Architects, and KPMB Architects, and establishing a track record of buildings that have surpassed the highest sustainability benchmarks and energy-efficiency targets. In his position on MJMA’s design team, he also brings to bear a Bachelor of Applied Science from Vancouver Island University, a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of British Columbia, and a Master of Architecture from Dalhousie. He now spearheads MJMA’s sustainability and innovation efforts as leader of MJMA Lab, a research and development initiative established to further the power of architecture to improve the human condition through the built environment. John has also contributed his off-hours to the Ontario Revit Users Group, for which he served as founding president and as content director, and to his current role as chair of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s Practice Support Committee.
