Afsaneh Tafazzoli

"The key challenge when creating a fluid space that fosters inclusivity and a sense of belonging is to make it as flexible and adaptable as possible, yet architecturally and spatially innovative and bold."

Afsaneh completed her Master of Architecture at Shahid Behesti University (Melli) in Tehran, Iran, before going on pursue her Master of Science at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, UK, with a concentration in Sustainable Environmental Design. In 2011, she relocated to Canada, joining MJMA later the same year to support the firm’s goal of maximizing public participation and community engagement through bold architectural expressions. These are exemplified by a portfolio of successful community leisure and recreation centres—notably 2019’s Orillia Community Recreation Centre, a $54 million project serving the city with an aquatics centre and competitive sports facilities.
